Summary:
Those holding this designation have the ability to represent taxpayers before the IRS. They are not restricted as to who they can represent in tax matters. Anyone trying to become an EA must first pass a written examination covering tax matters, or have significant experience working with the IRS. Both tracks also include a background check.
