Frequently Asked Questions |
 |
| Q. |
Do you have a customer satisfaction or refund policy? |
| |
Yes. Together we define the expectations of each other and make that a part of an Investment Advisory Contract. Nearly all payment for work and asset management fees are billed in arrears, so there is seldom a need for a refund. |
|
| Q. |
What are your qualifications? What is your education background? |
| |
I am a Registered Financial Consultant and have completed the education curriculum for financial planners designated by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. I hold licenses for insurance and investment advisory services. I also hold a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I started in the financial services industry in 1985. |
|
| Q. |
What is your approach to financial planning? |
| |
I am a strong believer in wealth preservation with reasonable expectations for long term growth of assets. For retirement accounts, the assets needed to fund lifestyle in retirement need to be in very safe financial vehicles and not subject to significant market fluctuations. Risk tolerance is carefully assessed and investment models are selected. All investment models are actively managed |
|
| Q. |
What services do you offer? |
| |
Investment advice and portfolio management on a fee-only basis, insurance products (life, health, long term care, disability, annuities), college funding planning, and tax preparation for individuals, families, clergy, and small business owners. |
|
| Q. |
Will you be the only person working with me? |
| |
In most cases, yes. If we need the services of another professional (lawyer, accountant, etc.), then these resources will be brought in or you can use resources you already have a relationship with. I am happy to work with other financial and legal professionals to achieve you overall objectives. |
|
| Q. |
How are you compensated? How will I pay for your services? |
| |
As a Registered Investment Advisor, my fee schedule is a matter of public record and will be provided as a part of our initial discussion. For tax preparation and college funding planning, I am also compensated on a fee basis. I receive commissions on insurance products that are included as a part of a strategy we implement. |
|
| Q. |
If you are going to manage my account, will you obtain my permission every time you buy or sell something? |
| |
Absolutely! I will give advice on courses of action, but your specific permission will be required before I execute any transactions on your behalf. Also, if you insist on implementing a financial transaction that I deem inadvisable, I will ask that you since an acknowledgment that I do not concur with the action before the transaction takes place. |
|
| Q. |
Do you offer any guaranteed results? |
| |
Guarantees of performance are not available on investments -- anyone who claims otherwise is in violation of securities law. Insurance products are guaranteed to the extent of the claims paying ability of the issuing insurance company. The only guarantee I can give is I will provide my best professional effort in all of the services I provide. |
|
| Q. |
How much risk should I be willing to take? |
| |
Risk tolerance is a personal choice and investment models can be constructed to meet your left of comfort with risk. I cannot accept a client who has a risk tolerance inconsistent with performance objectives. |
|
| Q. |
Have you ever been charged with any breaches? |
|
| Q. |
What carrier(s) do you represent? |
| |
I am an independent agent and have over 30 companies available to select from. This breadth of companies allows me to place cases with the best fit for your needs. No one company handles all cases well and have their "sweet spot" for the kinds of business they will accept. |
|
| Q. |
Are there any pre-existing conditions that you can not cover? |
| |
This is driven by the kinds of conditions that the underwriters will accept. Some are outright rejections while others have incur a temporarily higher rate, permanent higher rate, or and exclusion (time-limited or permanent). This also varies among companies. When we discuss your specific situation, those questions can be addressed. |
|
| Q. |
How long does it take to complete the application and approval process? |
| |
This depends on the service and product. Contact me with your request and I can give general guidance. The uniqueness of each individual makes a precise answer impractical. |
|
| Q. |
Is there a maximum age that you can insure? |
| |
This is driven by the underwriting guideline for the insurance companies and depends on the product involved. Getting an insurance product approved for someone older than 90 is a challenge. |
|
| Q. |
What services do you provide? What are your specialties? |
| |
I am a life advisor that specializes in money. Overall financial assessment, planning, budgeting, tax considerations, and risk management is the focus of my work with clients. Other services include investment advice and portfolio management specializing in retirement accounts, college funding planning, tax preparation, and personal insurance products. |
|

|
| Q. |
Why should I choose you as my financial advisor? |
| |
For a long term investment advisory relationship to work, we need to choose each other. My skills and abilities need to line up with your objectives. | |
I believe education planning is shared between the parent and the student. We look for tax-efficient funding vehicles and apply my knowledge of financial aid rules and procedures to maximize your "need". |
|

How long does the process of setting up an Education Plan usually take? |
| |
The plan can be set up within a few weeks. The more important part is getting started early. |
|
| Q. |
What financial institutions do you represent? |
| |
I am independent and not constrained to recommend any specific strategy. |
|
| Q. |
What are your fees for this service? |
| |
This depends on how extensive the plan is and how much you want me to do. |
|
| Q. |

| |
