Work Experience:  I didn't always "eat, sleep and breathe" financial services. I came into the profession after a lot of other kinds of life and work experience. In 1975 I earned a BFA in Theatre from the University of Cincinnati, then an MFA in writing from UCLA in 1978. After writing a little for television and having a couple of plays professionally produced I became a corporate employee. In 1999 I met with a financial professional because I was desperate for help with an old 401(k).

My financial ignorance at that point was embarrassing. But I was assured it was also universal. Most of us aren't taught the basics of personal finances at home or in school. When we start our work lives we are generally all thrown to the lions financially.

The financial professional I was lucky enough to meet gave me a sorely needed education then worked with me to build a personal game plan for optimum financial health. The clarity I received at that critical juncture inspired me to change career paths and deep-dive into attaining all the accreditation and licensing necessary to become a full-fledged financial professional myself.

Financial Services

Portfolio Management

Asset allocations are based on a client's risk profile, are filtered by options most appropriate for the investor's lifecycle and are managed for market conditions. Asset classes can include individual stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs or alternatives.

Retirement Planning

Financial needs analyses and plans are built for meeting living expenses and lifestyle desires after wage or salaried income ends. Planning includes determining best options for claiming Social Security benefits, optimizing multiple account withdrawal strategies and best options for taking Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).

Wealth Management

Proactive management for safely growing assets while continually protecting and preserving the wealth that has already been built using strategic and tactical styles of 24/7 portfolio management.

Risk Management

Investing through a Managed Account program reduces exposure to economic and market downturns by utilizing the flexibility and nimbleness of active asset diversification and opportunistic account rebalancing along with other management tools. Utilizing instruments like trusts or certain qualified accounts can reduce potential liability risks.

401K Rollovers

Whether separating from service or moving to a new employer with its own plan, I'll help with an objective analysis of best options for moving over to a new 401(k) or rolling over to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). If choosing an IRA, be it a traditional or Roth, I will follow through with optimum implementation of investment strategies.

Money Management

Along with investment management, money management can include help with budgeting, spending, debt servicing and advising on cost-benefit decision-making for individuals and businesses.

Education Funding and Planning

With the cost of a college education outpacing general cost-of-living increases, planning ahead has become more and more important for families with school-age children. There are several kinds of savings options available including the educational IRA, now more formally known as a Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA), 529 plans and even Roth IRAs. But aside from deciding on the most suitable savings vehicle, planning for education funding should also include understanding the ins and outs of student aid, scholarships, grants, work-study programs and student loans. I can help demystify education funding options with financial aid calculations and I can implement the best overall strategies for the most cost effective ways of paying for school.

Financial Advice & Consulting

As an ongoing Fiduciary Advisor, I work with clients on a macro "30,000 foot" level to supervise overarching issues and implement solutions that will span clients' entire financial lifecycles. As an on-call Consultant, I can help zero in on specific occurrences that will affect clints' financial lives. Home sales or purchases, other kinds of high-ticket purchases, paying for children's weddings, the arrival of newborns in the household, change of career, divorce, sudden caregiving situations -- these are samples of situations where I have helped provide perspective as a consultant beyond just offering investment advice.

Financial Planning for Individuals

As a fiduciary, before I introduce financial solutions I produce an individualized financial game plan for prospective clients. This is done for zero cost and with no obligation attached to become an investment client. I utilize different financial planning software tools and calculators depending on the complexity of the situation. These tools allow me to project multiple "what-if" scenarios and ultimately establish the best, most suitable options for going forward with plan implementation.

Financial Planning for Businesses

As a financial advisor with a holistic approach to serving businesses and their owners' best interests I work with a network of top national tax and legal specialists whose expertise create optimum results for business clients by reducing taxes and mitigating risks. Strategies derived through these collaborations can result in tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual tax savings for businesses and their owners as well as higher profit margins.

Investment Advice & Management

As your advisor, I am the bridge between your personal financial goals and the investment choices enlisted to meet them. I am a fiduciary whose responsibility is to put your needs and best interests first. My job is to work with you to discover your goals, needs, preferences and risk tolerance, then, based on these findings, identify one or more professional asset management firms whose investment philosophies and styles are aligned with your objectives. I am there to assist you with understanding different investment models and help you track whether an investment choice we have made for you continues to meet your needs and objectives over time. If a change is ever necessary I am delegated with the authority to fire and hire new wealth management partners who will best align with your ongoing investing needs.

Tax Advice and Services

I offer tax planning and advice for businesses, their owners, and for individual taxpayers. Types of tax mitigation include utilizing ownership of individual stocks, utilizing tax aware ETFs, investing in tax exempt municipal bonds, investing in qualified dividend earning instruments which are taxed at lower capital gains rates, and implementing tax loss harvesting. Tax mitigation for businesses can be achieved in many ways depending on the type and size of the business and through my access to a national network of top business tax specialist.

Insurance Planning

Life insurance exists to replace income if a breadwinner dies prematurely. It is, in a sense, a "rented estate." As part of my overall financial planning process I evaluate the need for insurance coverage and, just as important, I look at when coverage and premium costs can be reduced because of the increased value of an insured's own savings and investments. With proper planning, an investor's own assets will meet and surpass the amount of their life insurance coverage and they'll be virtually self-insured.

Annuities

If a financial planning indicates the need for certain kinds of savings guarantees, different varieties of annuities may become appropriate components of a plan's investment strategies. Annuities can be simple or complex depending on the type and the kind of guarantee desired. A holistic planning approach will indicate which kind of annuity should be part of a particular savings strategy.

Estate Planning & Trusts

Due to the High Federal Estate Tax Exemption amount many financial advisors ignore the need for trusts. However, there are numerous other reasons for implementing trust-based estate plans. They might include simply avoiding the costs and exposure of probate, continuity of legacy asset management, tax-friendly asset growth, creditor and divorce protection, having beneficiaries from multiple marriages, guardianship considerations for surviving minors, special needs protection for receiving government benefits, and protection from possible future estate taxes if exemption amounts decrease. Though not an attorney, as an advisor I can help quarterback an estate planning process and make sure a subsequent trust is not just documented properly, but also is properly funded.
