Financial Planning for Individuals
I start by understanding my client's goals and needs. Then I gather all pertinent information about their financial situation. After analyzing and projecting the clients financial situation, I provide detailed and comprehensive advice for their goals. This includes retirement and education, their needs like a cash reserve, adequate insurance coverage and their means to achieve financial success through prudent investing. I walk my clients through the implementation of all agreed upon recommendations and bring in trusted professionals to act as experts in the areas of estate planning, taxes, insurance and banking/lending.
Portfolio management is the key to our client's success. I begin with a deep understanding of market and economic conditions. Building on that understanding, I create tailored client portfolios based on their risk tolerance and objectives. I utilize individual stocks, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Closed-end Funds, structured defined outcome Investments and Options to build out the ideal client portfolio.
Retirement planning is the most popular planning goal I come across. In today's world, with limited to no pensions, investing for retirement is on the shoulders of the individual. I use my knowledge and experience to guide my clients through accumulation to transitioning to income during retirement.
I have been helping individuals rollover their employer sponsored retirement plans (401k, 403b, 457, TSP, etc.) since I began in 2005. The most common rationale for rolling over an old employer sponsored plan is the lack of investment options provided by the plan. In addition, most plans do not provide adequate investment options to generate the income needed in retirement or manage downside risk. Regardless if it makes sense to leave a 401k at a previous employer or roll it over to an IRA, I can help with the decision making process and explain all the pros and cons.
Through my financial planning process, I evaluate my clients overall insurance needs including life, health, disability, long-term care and property casualty liability coverage. Although I do not sell insurance products directly because I am a fee-only advisor, I provide my clients with recommendations and help them acquire the needed policies.
I do not sell annuities. I firmly believe that there are very rare cases when an annuity is appropriate for a client. I believe annuities are oversold because of the high commissions advisors make selling them. If an annuity is appropriate, I have access to low cost annuity products that do not generate commissions or sales charges and have no costs to get out of the annuity.
Estate Planning & Trusts
Estate planning is a crucial part of every client's financial plan. Everyone at least needs a will, power of attorney and healthcare proxy. Clients with small children should create trusts under their wills to ensure the assets are used appropriately for the child. I work with attorneys to implement estate plans and if needed, create complex estate planning strategies.
Tax Advice and Services
Tax planning is an important part of investment, retirement and education planning. Investing in the most efficient types of accounts for your goals is critical to success. Efficient investment management and helping to mitigate tax liabilities allows clients to allocate more of the money they earn toward their goals.
Education Funding and Planning
With the cost of education rising well above the cost of inflation for many decades, parents are finding an ever increasing need to plan for their children's education. I help my clients focus on their specific goals for their children and understand what is possible for their family. It is my belief that if a child is capable, there is nothing that should hold back their education. With family savings, income, loans and possible scholarships, we'll find a way to pay for college or a vocational school that meets your child's needs.
Investment Advice & Management
I provide investment management for a percentage fee of assets under management either on a discretionary or non-discretionary basis, depending on the client's preference. I meet with my clients on a semi-annual basis or as often as preferred by the client to review their portfolio. I am constantly reviewing client investments and monitoring the markets to provide timely advise.
Risk management is the most important part of portfolio management and key to long-term success. I use Modern Portfolio Theory, diversification, strategies utilizing options and understanding of market/economic conditions to minimize the myriad of risks an investor faces. In-depth research and analysis creates opportunities to buy low and sell high. I avoid speculation like the plague and invest in fundamentally sound businesses and economically viable sectors and industries.
Financial Advice & Consulting
Trust is earned. Relationships are based on trust. Advice is accepted in a trusted relationship. I listen to my clients. I listen to their concerns, their ideas and what they want to accomplish financially for themselves and their family. I openly discuss all available options to meet a particular financial goal, including the opportunities and the risks. I'm a advocate for my clients in all areas of their finances when other professionals are involved such as insurance agents, loan officers, attorneys and accountants. I work closely with these other professionals to provide holistic services to my clients.
Wealth means many different things to many different people. All that matters to me is what it means to my client. Money and investments should be a means to an end with the end being what your wealth provides for you, your family and future generations.
When it comes to helping my clients manage their money, I use all the available tools and resources at my disposal to implement sound investment strategies. The market and economy dictate what investments are most likely to perform better in the future. Sometimes ETFs and sector diversification will win the day, other times it's important to be more specific with individual securities, or at times managing downside risk and generating return safely is of utmost importance. However, ALL the time, it's important to be diversified and manage risks.

Yes, I guarantee the complete satisfaction of my financial planning services and will refund financial planning fees if the client is not satisfied.
How are you compensated? How will I pay for your services?
We are fee only. The client has the option to pay a percentage of assets under our management or a flat fixed annual fee. The client will receive both financial planning and investment advice under ONE fee regardless of the path the client chooses.
If you are going to manage my account, will you obtain my permission every time you buy or sell something?
We typically manage client accounts on a "discretionary" basis. Meaning we do not require permission and/or discussion for every buy or sell transaction. Client objectives and many other factors are discussed upfront and reviewed on an on-going basis. We feel this is the preferred method from both the client's perspective and ours. We do accommodate new clients by discussing transitions more frequently if requested by the client.
Will you be the only person working with me?
I am my client's go-to for financial planning and investment discussions. Being available for my clients is important to me. We have great client service professionals to help with forms, updates, administrative details, etc. and a portfolio management team to oversee day-to-day trading, transactions, monitoring, research and analysis. All team members can be made available when needed.
