Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
This is the hallmark planning credential, granted by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. To receive this credential, the candidate must first have three years of financial planning experience and a bachelor's degree, or five years of financial planning experience. The candidate can also bypass the education requirement by holding one of the following designations: CPA, ChFC, CLU, CFA, Ph.D. in business or economics, or be an attorney (final exam must still be taken). After completing a final certification exam, the advisor must follow up with thirty hours of continued education every 2 years.
